How to Lever Bleed Shimano Brakes

Over time, hydraulic brakes will eventually start to give out on you. You'll probably notice that the first time that you grab them in the morning you can probably get the lever all the way back to the grip. You give it a couple of strong pulls and pretty much everything is back to normal. So you don't need to do anything, right? Wrong!

All hydraulic brakes will need to be bled over time. The good news is, for Shimano, the process is so simple that you can do it quickly. I was able to bleed two XT brakes this morning in about 5 minutes; here is a handy visual guide to walk you through the process.

Lake Leatherwood - Eureka Springs, AR

After a morning at Passion Play and refueled by lunch, we decided to hit Lake Leatherwood on the way home and do some shuttle runs. There is a shuttle bus that carries riders from the bottom up to the top in a couple of minutes. Based on the downhill run times, every time we hit the shuttle lot the bus was pulling up again, so it was a great day. With the quick shuttle up to the top and a short ride to the "Hub", you can get in a bunch of runs. We were only there for about an hour and we still managed to get in four runs. And these runs really wear you out quickly, I don't think I could have done a full day of it.

Passion Play - Eureka Springs, AR

Yes, Eureka Springs is a bit out of the way if you are staying in Bentonville, but Passion Play makes it well worth the drive. About an hour east of Bentonville is the town of Eureka Springs, home to great trails and a ton of fun. If you play your cards right you can get in two trails in a day, but be warned, you will be spent. If you want to just go all out, Passion Play has all of the features, jumps and gaps that will wear you down and have you begging for mercy by the end of the ride.

Suburban Ninja - Cedar Park

With close proximity to Brushy Creek, Suburban Ninja is both an add-on to the Brushy Creek trails as well as a destination on its own. There is significant work that continues to be done and the trails continue to expand, so keep an eye on Ninja as it continues to evolve. It's a fast, flowy trail with a brewery and a bike shop at the trail head, what more could you ask for?
