I was excited about the FTM because I was really looking forward to a 5" version of my bike. However, I found that the extra inch of travel came with a pretty stiff penalty.
To begin with, the bike felt very noodly. Slight turns on the bars produced larger shifts in direction, it was almost like the bike didn't WANT to go straight. Dropping the Talas back down to 120 from 140 solved this problem, but I was buying a new bike for the travel.
The rear shock was producing a lot of bob, and no matter how long I spent fiddling with it, I couldn't get it just right. Perhaps I didn't give it enough time, but every other bike was tuned in with far less effort.
The linkage and suspension were fine, reacting exactly like I would expect them to.
Climbing was decent, the bike did a good job of tracking to the trail, and descents were fine in 140mm but a bit bumpy in 120mm (which is what I would expect.)
