Waterdog Lake, Belmont, CA

Waterdog Lake is series of trails that are apparently city property. Well maintained singletrack with plenty of maps, trail markers and a good selection of routes.

As trails go, you had better be ready to climb, but this is California, so that should go without saying. The climbs all include steep trails and tight switchbacks. One of the climbs had 12-15 switchback all laid out in a vertical fashion with 10-20 yard segments of straight trail between them.

Location:

Belmont California

Directions:

From U.S. 101, take the Ralston Av. exit if you're coming from the south. From the north, I beleive it's called Marine World Parkway. Head west, past El Camino Real and The Alameda de las Pulgas. Just past this last street, keep your eyes open for Lyall Way on the left, just as the road begins to climb. Turn left on Lyall. You will come to a stop sign at Lake Road. Park on the left side of Lyall just past this stop sign. The entrance to Water Dog Lake is at the corner. (Directions from the Live555 site)

About 6-8 miles of what we rode, and there were plenty of trails that we passed up.

Beautiful California singletrack. Dusty but well maintained.

Post Ride Beer:

Not sure what it was, but it sure was good. We had a beer at Passion Trail Bikes, they are one of the coolest shops around and if you need anything while you are there, this is the only stop.
