Tapatio Springs, Boerne, TX

Tapatio Springs' mountain biking trail is part of the Tapatio Springs Golf Resort and Conference Center. Don't have a conference and don't want to golf? Well mountain biking is the thing to do. This trail has been home to both regional and national races. Because biking is not their main attraction, it's probably smart to call up before you head out there (1-800-999-3299.)

Yeah, it's creepy to ride alongside a golf course, but there are some interesting sections to ride. The trail begins with a half mile doubled track climb, where you start thinking "am I on the right trail" but don't despair, it gets better. It's a short loop, but there is plenty of elevation change to keep you occupied. Especially interesting is the set of downhill switchbacks in the final mile. Definitely a pucker factor.

Location:

Boerne, Southwest of Austin in the Hill Country.

Directions:

(From their web site) From IH-35, take exit for Hwy 46 West/Loop 337 in New Braunfels. Travel approximately 3 miles and take a right on Hwy 46 West. Travel approximately 43 miles to Boerne. Once in Boerne, turn left at the traffic light (Main St./ Haupstrasse). Travel about 1 mile and turn right on Hwy 46 West/Bandera Rd. (Wendy's on right-hand corner.) Travel about 1/2 mile past the HEB grocery store and veer right after Dairy Queen to get on IH-10 West. Take the next exit, (#539) Johns Road. Take a left on Johns Road (over the highway) and continue on Johns Road for approximately 4 miles. Turn right on Wild Turkey and then left on Blue Heron to the resort.
